(ABOUT THE FILM)
Amara Vale's Somewhere Quiet is a gentle drama about independence, duty, and the courage to imagine another life. The coastal setting provides a contrast to the pace of the city, with open landscapes, early-morning walks, and everyday encounters reflecting Ama's gradual change in perspective. Through naturalistic performances and a restrained visual style, the film finds its emotional centre in the ordinary moments when a person begins to recognise their own needs and consider what it might mean to honour them.
(STORY)
Ama has become the person everyone can rely on, putting her own ambitions aside to help her family manage the demands of daily life in Accra. When a temporary job takes her to a quiet coastal town, the change initially feels like a practical arrangement rather than an escape. Away from familiar expectations, she begins to find comfort in small routines, new friendships, and the freedom to spend time alone. But imagining a different future means confronting the guilt of wanting something for herself and the possibility that the people she loves may not understand her decision.
