(ABOUT THE FILM)
Where the River Ends is a reflective drama about displacement, memory, and the fragile bond between people and the places that shape them. Nora Ellis uses the changing waterline and the textures of riverside life to explore what happens when a landscape becomes temporary. The film's visual language is quiet and observational, focusing on weathered homes, personal belongings, and the faces of people preparing to leave. Rather than treating loss as a single event, it considers the small acts through which people preserve a place after its future has been taken away.
(STORY)
When Mara learns that the riverside town where she grew up is soon to be cleared for a new reservoir, she returns intending to stay only long enough to close the family house. The town is preparing for a future many of its residents did not choose. As belongings are packed and familiar paths lead to places that will soon disappear, Mara begins collecting photographs and stories from neighbours she has not seen in years. Her own memories prove less certain than she expects, and the home she spent years trying to outgrow becomes increasingly difficult to leave behind.
